Marketing for Coaches: The Channels, Message and Plan That Fill a Calendar

Marketing for coaches means getting the right people to book a call with you, again and again. Pick one buyer and one result. Choose one or two channels that reach them. Give a strong free resource, and send every lead to a booked call. Track cost per booked call, not likes.

One client's booking flow booked 664 sales calls in three months. Results are not typical.

1What does marketing for coaches actually involve?

JobWhat it meansNumber to watch
MessageOne buyer, one result, in plain wordsReplies and clicks
ChannelOne or two places you reach that buyerCost per booked call
CaptureA free resource or form that gets a name and numberCost per lead
Booked callEvery lead gets pushed to a call, with remindersShow rate, close rate

Most coaches spend all their time on the second job and skip the rest, so posting every day can still leave the calendar empty. If you are not sure which of the four is holding you back, find the exact bottleneck in your business.

2What should your marketing message say?

Niche marketing for coaches means naming one buyer and one result. Add a time frame if you can. The same rule holds in marketing for life coaches, health coaches and business coaches. These before and after lines are made-up examples.

Coach typeBefore (vague)After (clear)
Life coachI help people live their best life.I help moms going back to work feel calm at home in 60 days.

4Email marketing for coaches: the sequence that books calls

One operator says only about 30% of a campaign's results land on day one. The other 70% come over the next year, from emailing the list again and again.

Start every new lead on five short emails. Then email often. One operator tested 3, 7 and 14 emails a week and found one a day worked best.

For reminder emails before a call, aim for 40% to 60% opens. Under 40% usually means a delivery problem.

5Social media marketing for coaches: what to post and where

Content can take months or years to bring clients, so run it next to a faster channel. Pick the one platform your buyers use most and post there on a fixed schedule. Volume is what sets the known names in a niche apart. Operators commonly report that only a small share of business owners post 10 or more times a week, and that those few are the ones with authority in their niche.

What should coaches post?

Mix four kinds of post. The examples are for a business coach.

KindWhat it isExample post
AuthorityProof that you get resultsA screen recording of you rewriting a real client's offer, with their permission
EducationHow-tos and breakdownsThe 3 questions I ask before I take on a client
PersonalityFamily, hobbies, humor, opinionsWhat I stopped doing to work four days a week
EntertainmentA first line or story that stops the scrollI turned down my biggest client. Here is why.

Authority is what sells, but on its own it reads as bragging. The other three make people like you enough to watch the proof. The strongest authority post now shows you doing the work for a client: building the campaign, fixing the offer, showing the leads that came in. Explaining a concept is weaker than doing it on camera.

6Paid ads for coaches: when do they pay back?

Ads work when all four of these are true. Fix any that is missing first.

CheckWhat operators report
Your offer is proven15 to 30 clients with results in the promised time
Your price can carry itHigh ticket starts at about $5,000
You can fund the test$6,000 to $10,000 a month, about $200 a day
You track cash backAt least $1.20 collected for every $1 of ads

One client collected $40,000 on $710 of ads before the webinar even ran. Not typical. See what ads cost in Meta ads cost, and check your return with the ROAS calculator.

How to build an ad that books calls

Every ad we write for coaches follows the same six beats, in this order.

BeatWhat it doesExample line
HookStops the scroll in the first 3 secondsPosting every day is not what gets you clients.
ProblemNames what they feel right nowYou post, people like it, and the calendar stays empty.
Who it is forLets the right people stay and the wrong ones leaveThis is for coaches already making $10K a month.
How it worksYour way, in one or two plain stepsOne free resource, one booking page, a text in minutes.
ProofOne real result with a numberA real client result, with their permission.
Next stepOne action: watch, register or messageClick below to watch the free training.

Start webinar ads with five truly different angles and about five versions of each, 30 to 90 seconds long, with captions. Most will lose, so volume matters more than polish. For a full batch of angles, hooks and scripts, get the ad angle and hook generator skill.

Your cheapest ads are posts that already won. Take your best organic posts, add a five-second call to action at the end that offers the free resource, and run them. It is the cheapest way to test new ads, because the platform has already tested the post on real people.

See If You Qualify

Bring your 90-day plan. We'll tell you what we'd build first.

7Build your 90-day coaching marketing plan

Put in your goal and pick one or two channels.

Your 90-day marketing plan
Your goal
Not sure? Plan on 40% to 50%.
Not sure? Try 25%.
Not sure? Use $100 to $300. Only used for ads.
Your channels (pick one or two)
Booked calls a week7
Calls that show a week4
Booked calls a month27
Revenue a month$20,000
Money a month (ads, webinars)$2,700
Two channels: enough to compare, few enough to do well.

Volumes use operator reports: about 8 booked calls per 10,000 cold emails, about 20% of webinar sign-ups attending live, 80% staying to the pitch and 30% of those booking, and about $20 per webinar sign-up. Track referrals, podcasts, content and email yourself.

Run the plan in four phases.

  1. Weeks 1 and 2: set up. Write your one-line message. Make one free resource and one booking page. Set email and text reminders for every call.
  2. Weeks 3 to 6: ramp. Run your one or two channels at half the weekly volume. Track cost per booked call by channel.
  3. Weeks 7 to 10: full volume. Hit the weekly booked-call target from the plan builder. Follow up with every lead within minutes.
  4. Weeks 11 to 13: fix and focus. Find your weakest number: cost per call, show rate or close rate. Cut the channel with the highest cost per client and put that time or money into the best one.

Want your plan sent to you?

Leave your email and we will send you this plan, plus the one channel we would start with.

We only use this to send your plan and to follow up about your client acquisition. If you add a mobile, we may call or text you about it.

8Should you hire a digital marketing agency for coaches?

Do it yourselfMarketing agencyDone-for-you build
Best whenYour offer is not proven yetYou want someone to run ads month to monthYour offer works and you want the whole system
You payYour timeA monthly retainerA one-time install
You own itYesOften not the ads or pagesYes, all of it

If your offer has no proven results yet, do it yourself first. No agency can fix an offer nobody wants. If it is proven and you want the whole system built, see if you qualify. The trade-offs are in agency vs done-for-you.

9Worked example: Priya plans her next 90 days

Priya is a made-up business coach with a $5,000 offer. She wants 4 new clients a month.

LineThe mathResult
Calls that must show4 clients ÷ 25% close16 a month
Calls to book16 ÷ 60% show27 a month, 7 a week
From referralsHalf the calls14 a month
From paid ads13 calls × $200$2,600 a month
Revenue4 × $5,000$20,000 a month

She has never had more than 5 referral calls a month, so 14 is a stretch. In weeks 3 to 6 she adds direct outreach to her old leads, and keeps ads small until her offer has more results. She also knows a real ad test needs $6,000 to $10,000 a month, so she plans for her cost per call to start higher.

10What to do this week

  1. Write your one-liner in the generator above and put it on your profile.
  2. Run the plan builder and write down your weekly booked-call target.
  3. Pick one or two channels. Drop the rest for 90 days.
  4. Set up the five emails. Day 4 invites them to a call.
  5. Text every new lead within 2 to 3 minutes, and call within 5 to 7.
  6. Post or run the six hooks. Keep the two that get the most replies or clicks and write five versions of each.
  7. Every Friday, count booked calls by channel and cost per booked call.

Frequently asked questions

How do coaches market themselves?

Most coaches who fill their calendar do four things. They say who they help and what result they get, in one line. They use one or two channels, give away one useful free resource, and push every lead to a booked call with reminders.

What are things coaches can improve on in their marketing?

Three things fix most coaching marketing. Make the message about one buyer and one result. Cut down to one or two channels. Follow up faster, with a text in minutes and reminders before every call, so more booked calls show up.

What are 7 types of digital marketing?

A common list is search (SEO), content, social media, email, paid ads, partner or affiliate marketing, and influencer or podcast marketing. In digital marketing for coaches, the job is to pick the one or two that reach the buyer at a cost per booked call you can afford.

What is the 3-3-3 rule in marketing?

There is no single 3-3-3 rule. People use the name for different short rules about attention and repetition. A useful version for coaches: get the promise across in the first 3 seconds, give people 3 ways to take the next step, and follow up at least 3 times.

What are the 5 key marketing strategies for coaches?

Referrals from happy clients, direct outreach, content with a free resource, an email list you write to often, and paid ads into a webinar or call funnel. Pick one or two based on whether you have more time or more money.

Is email marketing worth it for coaches?

Yes. Email is where people who are not ready yet become ready. One operator reports that about 70% of a campaign's results arrive over the following year, from emailing the list again and again. Send a short welcome sequence, then email often.

How much should a coach spend on marketing?

Work back from your goal. Take the booked calls you need and multiply by your cost per booked call. Operators commonly report $100 to $300 per booked call from ads, and say a real ad test needs about $6,000 to $10,000 a month. Free channels cost time instead.

Should I hire a marketing agency for my coaching business?

Only once your offer is proven, with clients getting results. Before that, no agency can fix it. After that, compare a monthly agency with a one-time done-for-you build that you own, and ask who owns the ads, pages and data.
