High Ticket Sales: What It Is, Examples and How the Sale Works

High ticket sales means selling a product or service priced at about $5,000 or more, usually on a booked Zoom or phone call instead of a checkout page. A funnel or setter books the call, a closer runs a short diagnosis and makes the offer, and the buyer pays in full or on a plan.

One client booked 664 sales calls in three months. Results are not typical.

1What is high ticket sales? Meaning and price range

Nobody puts $10,000 in a cart after one ad. They want to talk to a person first, so the sale happens one buyer at a time, on a live call. Most of it is remote high ticket sales, run on Zoom or the phone, so the closer can work from anywhere. Five numbers run it: booked calls, show rate, close rate, price and cash collected.

High ticket starts at about $5,000. Plan to collect about $4,000 of a $5,000 price once payment plans, refunds and disputes come out.

2What are examples of high ticket sales?

The most common high ticket sales examples are coaching, consulting, done-for-you services and premium groups.

MarketThe offerHow it sells
Men's fitness, ages 40 to 65$9,000 for 12 months, a $6,000 six-month downsell, and a $30,000 a year top tierBooked call, about half pay in full
Sales coaching$12,500 for a six-month programBooked call
Content coaching$4,000 programLive webinars three times a week, then a call
Done-for-you ads agency$15,000 for setup plus 3 months of ad managementBooked call, the client only closes
B2B service, one-time fee$8,000 to $15,000 one-time fees, moved up from $1,200 to $2,000 monthly retainersBooked call
Premium mastermindMonthly price raised in steps from $1,500 to $10,000 a monthApplication, then a call

Each has a big promise, a long program or a done-for-you build, and a price that needs a conversation. See our own case studies for offers we helped sell.

3How does high ticket sales work?

Every high ticket sale goes through the same five steps. Each step loses people.

  1. Lead. An ad, a webinar, a video or a referral gets someone interested.
  2. Booked call. They pick a time on your calendar and answer a few questions.
  3. Shown call. Reminders get them to actually turn up.
  4. Close. A closer runs the call and asks for the sale.
  5. Cash collected. They pay on the call, in full or on a plan.

Compare your numbers with these to find your weakest step. For show rate in depth, read what a good show rate is.

NumberWhat operators commonly report
Show rate, industry averageAbout 50%
Show rate, realistic best case60% to 70%
One-call close rateUsual 20% to 25%, weak 10% to 15%, above average 30%+
Close rate to set your price by18% to 30% of calls that show
Calls booked after a webinar70%+ show, 35%+ close
Cost per booked call to plan on$100 to $300, up to $500 to $1,000 for bigger tickets

Two-call closes should land at 35% or more. The extra call is extra friction, so it should only let serious buyers through.

4The high ticket sales math tool

Put in one month. The starting numbers are Dana's, a made-up coach.

Your high ticket sales month
Your calls
Cash and pay
Calls that showed39
Sales9.8
Revenue sold$78,000
Cash collected$54,600
Closer pay$5,460
Setter pay$1,500
Cash after sales pay$47,640
Cash per booked call$910
Booked calls for goal110
Closers needed1
Close rate is in the usual range.

To collect $100,000 a month at these numbers you need about 110 booked calls, which is 1 closer.

Sales are an average, so 9.8 is fine. Closers needed assumes 8 booked calls a day.

About 8 booked calls a day is the most one closer should take. Keep closers at 80% to 90% of full, so there is time left for follow-up.

To see what each client costs you, ads and team included, use the client acquisition cost calculator.

5Who does what on a high ticket sales team?

At the start, the owner does it all. As calls grow, the work splits into three jobs.

SetterCalls and texts new leads, asks a few questions, and books the good ones onto the closer's calendar.$25 to $50 per qualified call booked, plus 2% to 5% of upfront cash
CloserTakes the booked calls, finds out if the offer fits, and asks for the sale.10% to 15% of cash
Client successLooks after buyers once they join, and sells renewals and upgrades.Paid on cash from renewals and upgrades

The one pay change that reliably works: pay on cash collected, not on deals signed. A yes that never pays should not pay the rep either. To add a rep, see how to hire appointment setters and how to hire a high ticket closer. To rent a team instead, read about the outsourced sales team model.

6What happens on a high ticket sales call?

High ticket sales closing is a short diagnosis, then an offer, then a clear ask. Our calls run in this order.

StageMinutesThe jobAsk this
1. Frame0 to 3Say what the call is for and that they decide at the end. Keep small talk under two minutes."Sound fair?"
2. Why now3 to 8Find what made them book this week"What made you book a call now, and not six months ago?"
3. Where they are8 to 15Revenue, clients, hours, a normal week. Use their form answers, do not re-ask them"Walk me through last month."
4. Where they want to be15 to 20One goal with a number and a date"If this works, what is true in 6 months?"
5. What they tried20 to 25Past attempts and why they failed. This is where the objections hide"What have you tried, and why didn't it stick?"
6. The cost of staying25 to 30Ask why not just stay where they are, before the offer."Why not keep doing what you're doing?"
7. The plan30 to 40Show the path from where they are to the goal. The outcome, not the module list"Want me to show you how we'd get you there?"
8. Price40 to 42Say the price once, then stay silent."It's $8,000. How does that sit with you?"
9. The real concern42 to 50Find the root: trust, timing, money or a partner. Handle it once"Apart from that, is there anything stopping you?"
10. Payment50 to 55Send the payment link while you are still on the call. Book their first session for the next day"I'll send the link now. Card or bank transfer?"
Call opener: setting the frame
Hey [first name], good to meet you. Here's how I'd like to use our time, if that works for you.
First, I'll ask a few questions about where your business is now and where you want it to be.
If I think we can help, I'll show you how it would work and what it costs.
If I don't think we're a fit, I'll tell you, and point you to what I'd do instead.
Either way, you decide at the end. Sound fair?

How do you handle the three objections you hear most?

Treat each one as a question about one thing. Find which thing, answer it once, then ask again.

"I need to talk to my partner"
Totally fair. Can I ask one thing first? If your partner said "your call", would you do it?

[If yes] Great. What do you think their main worry will be? Let's go through that now, so you have the answers when you talk tonight.
[If no] OK, so it's not really about them. What part of this are you still unsure about?

About one in three say they would buy anyway, which shows the partner was not the real concern.

"It's too expensive"
Is price the only thing in the way? If the money worked, would you start today?

[If yes] OK. You said [goal] is worth about [their number] a year to you. What would make the $[price] feel safe?
[Offer a plan only now] We can do $[first payment] today and the rest over [months]. That only works if you decide on this call.

Isolate price first, ask what cash they have today, and only offer a smaller first payment if they commit on the call.

"I need to think about it"
Of course. Usually when someone says that, it's one of three things: the money, whether it'll work for them, or the timing. Which one is it for you?

Grade a recorded call

Play back one recorded call. Pick what really happened, not what should have.

Sales call grader
1. Before the call, the closer read the booking answers and
2. In the first 3 minutes the closer
3. By minute 25, could you write down their goal with a number and a date?
4. The offer was shown as
5. After saying the price, the closer
6. When they pushed back, the closer
7. At the end of a yes

What a buyer watches and reads before the call raises close rates more than anything the closer says on it. If the grade is good and close rate is still low, fix the proof and the pre-call content first.

7Why do high ticket sales stall?

Most stalls happen in the steps around the call. Not sure which one is yours? Find the exact bottleneck in your business.

8Is high ticket sales legit? Red flags and green flags

Yes. Selling a real program or service on a call is a normal, legal way to sell. The hype around it is the problem. Watch for these when someone offers you a sales job, or sells you a course on getting one.

9How to get into high ticket sales: pay and the first role

Most people start as a setter. You book calls for a closer and learn the offer, the buyer and the objections. Then you move to closing.

For high ticket sales training, practice on mock calls with a friend. Record them. Then message business owners with a short video on how you would help them close more.

RolePay modelTypical pay
SetterPer booked call, plus a cut of cash$3,000 to $5,000 a month within about six months
CloserPercent of cash collectedAbout $800 a sale on a $10,000 offer at 10%, when 80% of cash is collected
Closer targetsMonthly minimumsOne team asks for 12 sales, $36,000 upfront cash and a 15% close rate a month

Only about 10% of high ticket reps are good enough to keep.

10Worked example: Dana's $8,000 program

Dana is a made-up business coach. She sells an $8,000, six-month program and closes her own calls.

LineThe mathsResult
Booked callsOne month60
Calls that showed60 × 65%39
Sales39 × 25%9.75

Cash collected this month$78,000 × 70%$54,600
Cash per booked call$54,600 ÷ 60$910

Then Dana fixes one step. She adds a confirm text and a reminder the morning of each call, and her show rate goes from 65% to 75%. Nothing else changes.

$54,600 to $63,000 from one show rate fix
Before$54,600 cash

  • 9.75 sales
  • $910 per booked call
After one fix$63,000 cash
  • 60 calls, 45 showed
  • 11.25 sales
  • $1,050 per booked call

Made-up example. Only the show rate changed.

11Can cold traffic fill a high ticket calendar?

Yes, when the steps around the call are built. Past results from specific clients. Not typical.

$0 to $1,230,101Blake Mathews's new offer, in 60 days, on cold traffic webinars
36.96xBrecken Troike's webinar: $326,552 back on $8,836 of ads

One creator with 1.1 million followers went from uneven $15K months to $95K cash collected in a month. The audience and the offer stayed the same. The booking flow, the follow-up and the path into the high ticket offer changed. Results are not typical.

That is the work Cashflow Coaches does for coaches: the funnel, the booking step, the reminders, and a sales team with scripts and call reviews. If you have a proven offer, see if you qualify. If webinars are your path, see the done-for-you webinar funnel.

12What to do this week

  1. Pull last month: booked calls, calls that showed, sales, price and cash collected. (20 minutes)
  2. Put them in the math tool. Write down your cash per booked call.
  3. Find your weakest step in the benchmark table. Pick that one, only that one.
  4. If it is show rate, add a confirm text and a reminder the morning of the call.
  5. If it is close rate, run your last 5 recorded calls through the call grader. Fix the top answer first.
  6. If your calendar is full every week, read how to hire a high ticket closer.
  7. Bring your numbers to a call with us and we will go through them line by line.

Frequently asked questions

What is high ticket sales?

High ticket sales means selling a product or service priced at about $5,000 or more, usually on a booked Zoom or phone call instead of a checkout page. A funnel or setter books the call, a closer runs a short diagnosis and makes the offer, and the buyer pays in full or on a plan.

What are examples of high ticket sales?

Common examples are coaching programs, consulting, done-for-you services and premium masterminds. Examples include a $9,000 year of fitness coaching, a $12,500 six-month sales coaching program, and a $15,000 done-for-you ads package. Each is sold on a call, not a checkout page.

How does high ticket sales work?

It runs in five steps. Ads or content bring in a lead. The lead books a sales call. Reminders get them to show up. A closer runs the call and asks for the sale. The buyer pays on the call, in full or on a payment plan. Each step loses people, so each step has its own number to track.

What do high ticket sales reps do?

Setters reach out to new leads and book the good ones onto a calendar. Closers take those booked calls, find out what the buyer wants and what is in the way, and offer the program if it fits. The leads come from the business's ads and content, not from cold calling strangers.

Is high ticket sales legit?

Yes. Selling a real $5,000 to $25,000 program on a call is a normal way to sell coaching, consulting and done-for-you services. The red flags are courses that promise fast riches from closing, jobs that ask you to pay to join, and pay with no date. A real sales job comes with a real offer, booked calls and commission paid on cash collected.

Is high ticket sales legal?

Yes. Selling an expensive product on a call is legal. What gets sellers in trouble is false promises about income or results, and charging people who did not agree to buy. Say what the offer does, show real results, and never promise earnings.

Is high ticket sales worth it?

For an owner, it is often the fastest way to make a coaching or service business pay, because a few sales cover a lot. For a rep, it is worth it if you join a team with a proven offer and steady booked calls. Without those, it is hard work for little pay.

How do you get into high ticket sales with no experience?

Start as an appointment setter, booking calls for a closer. Practice mock calls, learn one script well, then move to closing once you have heard hundreds of calls. Join a team with a proven offer and steady booked calls, and ask how commission is paid before you start. Be wary of anyone who promises $10,000 months in your first few months.

What type of sales makes the most money?

Sales paid mostly on commission, on high prices, with a steady flow of booked calls. Pay is roughly price times commission times sales. A rep on a $10,000 offer earns far more per yes than one on a $500 offer, as long as the calendar stays full.

Can you make $500,000 a year in sales?

It is possible but rare. At 10% commission on cash collected, $500,000 a year means bringing in about $5 million of cash. That takes a high price, a very full calendar and years of skill. Treat anyone who promises it to a beginner as a red flag.

What is a good close rate for high ticket sales?

Operators running high ticket funnels commonly report 20% to 25% on a one-call close, with 30% or more counting as above average and 10% to 15% as weak. Calls booked after a webinar often close higher, at 35% or more, because the webinar did the teaching first.

Do I need a closer to sell high ticket?

Not at first. Most coaches should close their own calls until they know their close rate over a large number of calls and their calendar is full. Then a high ticket sales closer takes the overflow. Our guide to hiring a high ticket closer covers when and how.

What are the 6 basic selling skills?

A common list is: finding the right buyers, asking good questions, listening, showing how your offer solves their problem, handling concerns, and asking for the sale. On a high ticket call, the last two are where most deals are won or lost.
