1What are B2B sales? Definition and meaning
To define B2B sales in one line, business to business sales means selling a product or service to a company instead of to a person. The buyer spends the company's money, so the sale is about return, risk and who else has to agree.
| Kind | B2B sales examples | How it usually sells |
|---|---|---|
| Products | A supplier selling parts to a factory | Reps, quotes, repeat orders |
| Software | A scheduling app sold to clinics | Free trial or demo call |
| Services | A consultant, agency or bookkeeper | Booked call, proposal, close |
The rest of this guide covers services: firms selling bigger deals on sales calls.

2B2B sales vs B2C: what is the difference?
The B2C meaning is business to consumer: selling to a person who pays with their own money.
| B2B sales | B2C sales | |
|---|---|---|
| Who buys | A company, through one or more people | One person or a family |
| Deal size | Usually larger | Usually smaller |
| People who say yes | Often two or more | Usually one |
| Why they buy | Return, savings, less risk | Want, feeling, need |
| How long it takes | Weeks to months | Minutes to days |
| Sales role | Setters, closers, account managers | Store staff, checkout, ads |
| Example | A payroll firm signing a 40-person restaurant group | A diner ordering food on an app |
Some companies are both. A food delivery app is B2C to diners and B2B to the restaurants that pay to be listed.
3What is the B2B sales process, step by step?
- Find a company that fits. Right size, right problem, someone who can sign. Read B2B lead generation for how.
- Book a discovery call. Text a new lead within 2 to 3 minutes and call within 5 to 7.
- Diagnose the problem. Ask about their numbers before you talk about yours.
- Make one clear offer. Price, what is included, when it starts.
- Close or set the next step. A date on the calendar, never "I'll think about it."
- Onboard and grow the account. Happy clients refer other businesses.
4How do you do B2B sales well in 2026?
- Be first to reply. A call within 60 seconds makes a close far more likely, and half of buyers go with whoever answers first.
- Send proof before the call. One seller sends every booked prospect a page of past deals with real numbers, and reports a 75%+ show rate and a 40%+ close rate.
- Give a real reason to act now. One urgency video on a confirmation page lifted show rate 19% and cut 4 days off the sales cycle.
- Judge on a month, not a week. A 20% close rate can still throw long runs of noes. Judge over 30 days.
- Follow up for weeks. B2B buyers check with partners and budgets. Plan the second and third touch, and use the deal rescue tool when one goes quiet.
5How do you save a B2B deal that went quiet?
Most B2B deals do not die from a no. They die from silence. Nobody followed up at the right time with the right words. Saving a deal you already have costs nothing in ads, so check for quiet deals every morning, before you chase new ones.
| Warning sign | Our starting rule |
|---|---|
| No reply from them | 7 days or more |
| Proposal with no answer | 5 days or more |
| Meeting moved | Twice or more |
| Stuck in one stage | Longer than your usual time for that stage |
Work the biggest deals and the ones closest to signing first. Never send "just checking in". Every touch should add something: a new result, a direct question, or a clear date. For leads that went cold long ago, short and casual works. One operator reports that a simple "where are you at?" message to 200 cold leads brings back about 5 to 10.
1 to 2 points: send a useful message. 3 to 4: call today. 5 or more: call today, first thing. To build a full follow-up and win-back sequence for every stage, get the follow-up and reactivation sequence Claude skill.
6B2B sales for high-ticket services: what are the numbers?
| Number | What operators report |
|---|---|
| Show rate | About 50% is average; 60% to 70% with good reminders |
| Close rate | 25% in one worked example on a $10K ticket |
| Sales cycle, paid ads | 2 to 3 weeks with a 2 or 3 call close |
| Sales cycle, webinar | About 7 to 14 days |
| Sales cycle, cold outreach | 1 to 2 months |
| Cost per booked call | $100 to $300; $500 to $1,000 for long cycles |
| Cost to win one B2B customer on ads | About $3,000, give or take $1,500 |

7Who is on a B2B sales team?
| Role | Job | Measured by |
|---|---|---|
| Setter (SDR) | Calls and texts new leads, qualifies, books the call | Calls booked, show rate |
| Closer (AE) | Runs the sales call and closes | Close rate, cash collected |
| Account manager | Keeps clients happy, renews and grows them | Renewals, referrals |
Small firms start lean. One operator at $100K a month ran the sales calls himself, with two setters filling one calendar of 8 to 9 calls a day. Hire another closer once a calendar is 70% full.
To hire, see appointment setters, high ticket closers, and the setter script. Or rent the whole team from a B2B sales agency: outsourced sales teams.

8What B2B sales tools do you need?
Most small teams need five things.
- A CRM to hold every lead, call and deal.
- A booking calendar with qualifying questions.
- Reminders by email and text before every call.
- Call recording so you can coach from real calls.
- A proposal or payment link so a yes turns into cash the same day.
9Where do B2B leads come from?
Referrals, outbound (email, text, calls), content and paid ads. Most start with outbound, because content can take months or years. Our B2B lead generation guide compares 10 channels by cost per booked call. If you would rather hire it out, read the lead generation agency buyer's guide first.

Want your numbers sent to you?
Leave your email and we will send this breakdown, plus the one number we would fix first.
We only use this to send your numbers and to follow up about your client acquisition. If you add a mobile, we may call or text you about it.Worked example: Leo
Leo is made up. He runs a bookkeeping firm and signs restaurant groups at $8,000 a year. He wants $40,000 in new contracts a month.
- $40,000 ÷ $8,000 = 5 deals.
- At a 25% close rate he needs 20 calls held.
- At a 70% show rate he books about 29 meetings, or 7 a week.
- With a 6 week cycle, about 28 deals are open at any time, worth about $221,700.
If Leo stops booking for two weeks, the gap shows up in his revenue six weeks later. If you want the system that keeps those meetings coming built for you, see if you qualify.
11How do you get into B2B sales?
Start as a setter. You learn the market by booking calls, then move up to closing. Practise with real scripts, record your calls, and ask for feedback every week. Firms hire for drive and follow-through more than a degree.
12What to do this week
- Write down last month's meetings booked, shown and closed, and average deal size.
- Run the calculator to get your weekly meeting target.
- Fix the slowest step. Most often it is speed to lead or reminders. Not sure which one? find the exact bottleneck in your business.
- List every deal with no reply in 7 days and run the top three through the deal rescue tool.
- Book next week's meetings now, so the pipeline never goes quiet.

Frequently asked questions
What is B2B sales?
B2B sales means one business selling to another business. Deals are bigger, take longer and involve more people than selling to consumers. A typical B2B service sale runs: find a company that fits, book a discovery call, diagnose the problem, make an offer and close.
What does B2B sales mean?
B2B stands for business to business. B2B sales means selling a product or service to a company, where the buyer spends the company's money and often needs others to agree.
What is a B2B example?
A payroll firm selling its service to a restaurant group. A software company selling scheduling tools to clinics. A consultant selling a $10,000 project to a manufacturer. In each case, the customer is a business.
What is B2C sales?
B2C means business to consumer. It is selling to a person who pays with their own money, like a shop, an app or an online course. Deals are usually smaller and faster.
Is a food delivery app B2B or B2C?
Both. It is B2C to the diners who order food and B2B to the restaurants that pay to be listed and to use its delivery service.
How to do B2B sales?
Reply to new leads fast (operators commonly text in 2 to 3 minutes and call in 5 to 7), diagnose before you pitch, make one clear offer with a price, and book a next step on every call.
Where can I find B2B leads for sale?
Data tools sell B2B contact lists by industry, company size and job title. A bought list is only a start: you still need outbound (email, text, calls) to turn names into calls. Referrals, content and paid ads bring leads you do not buy. Our B2B lead generation guide compares 10 channels by cost per booked call.
What does a B2B sales representative do?
A B2B sales representative, or rep, finds and talks to business buyers. Setters reach out and book calls. Closers run the sales call and close. Account managers keep and grow clients after the sale.
